Most computer users associate Microsoft's Internet
Explorer as the "internet". Internet Explorer is a
web browser, a type of software program that lets you
surf web pages. All versions of Microsoft Windows
have Internet Explorer included. There are other
browsers available, and I highly recommend using
anything but Internet Explorer.
Internet Explorer has been plagued with security holes that let hackers and advertising companies gain access to your computer. Third parties can install "helper" programs into the software (usually without your consent). Such helpers can be helpful (like the Google toolbar) or extremely dangerous (like trojan downloaders that download adware, spyware and other items onto your computer). Internet Explorer can download these things in the background, slowing your computer down and making it impossible to use.
For the above reasons I recommend using Firefox. Firefox is a free internet browser that is fast and secure. You can download it by clicking this link.
